Coaching for Personal Development

Personal development is such a personal thing! What does it mean? How does it come about? Who will you be when you are self-actualised? Questions like this cause you to look internally at yourself – who you are, what’s important to you, and what you stand for. Knowing yourself is the first criteria to knowing and understanding others.

What are the values that drive you to do the things that you do – get up every morning and go to work, tidy up around the house when friends are coming over for dinner, go the extra mile when there’s someone in need? And what are the behaviours that support and demonstrate to others that you hold these values? Are you true to your values as demonstrated by your behaviours, or is it a case of “Do as I say, not as I do?”

Knowing yourself and learning how to know and understand others is what you will learn as you journey towards becoming a Professional Coach. You will be coaching people from all walks of life, whose behaviours may or may not fit with your values and beliefs. Suspending judgment and being truly present with them is the key to a successful coaching relationship and can lead to deeper levels of understanding, resulting in life-long learning and friendship.

Engaging a Professional Coach to help you grow personally and professionally is one of the best gifts you can give yourself in the next month. Better still, why not become a Professional Coach yourself? Find out more about becoming a Professional Coach with the Australian Institute of Professional Coaches.
