The Benefits of Coaching Teams

Coaching individuals and teams in the work environment has many benefits, the major one being (which leads to all the others) improved interpersonal communication with your manager and colleagues. Let’s face it! You spend the majority of your waking hours at work, so why not enjoy the company and be fully productive? The last thing you want is not to get along with someone in your team, resulting in tension and disharmony within the team. Tension spreads like wildfire. Everyone feels it. Everybody’s work is affected. That’s not the kind of environment you want to work in every day!

How you want to start your day (every day!), whether it’s at work or at home, is in an atmosphere of respect and support, where issues are aired so that problems can be addressed and amicably resolved. That’s how a coach can help you and your team; s/he can help you experience less conflict, better relationships and a more productive workplace in which people listen to each other, build off each other’s suggestions, where the ideas flow in relation to new innovations, products and services, and where people find new ways of doing the most ordinary and mundane things.

Isn’t this the kind of work environment you want to “play” in every day? I know I do. I love it when people listen to me. Sure, I can “rabbit on” with the best of them, but sometimes I make sense – “things” just make sense – and I can “see” a better, more efficient or effective way to approach a task, to achieve that goal, to support another person or improve on a process. Do you have the “space” in your work team to experiment, to let your mind wander and explode with new ideas? If not, why not/? What are the constraints that hold you back from making those suggestions which seem so obvious to you? Do you think that they will fall on infertile ground? If so, that’s where a coach can help you sow the seed, release the barriers that are holding the team back, and start a whole new way of achieving that goal. A coach does all this and more.
